The Lazy Daisies Art Gallery
ST HELENA BAY GETS A BRAND-NEW ART GALLERY
Art lovers are in for a treat!
Off the beaten track, on the crest of the hill overlooking the village, you will find the latest sensational addition to St Helena Bay’s growing art culture – the Lazy Daisies Art Gallery.
Located on the grounds of the Lazy Daisies Luxury Self-Catering Studios, the drive up to the gallery is very scenic with mongoose and guineafowl darting across your path and sweeping views of the Atlantic. On arrival, expect the unexpected! Visitors are surprised and delighted as they step over the threshold and enter the magical domain created by local artist Mandi Knee. Large audacious canvasses dominate the walls. On entering this world class gallery, you will be greeted firstly by a collection of hyper-realistic oil portraiture, and a mesmerising assortment of spectacular eyes will follow your progress around the room. Although Mandi specialises in portraiture, her brush has also crafted a selection of bold and emotive elephants, dusty galloping zebra, vibrant protea and other original pieces. This is a space you will want to spend time in. An exciting addition to the gallery is the innovative objet d’art by Danie Potgieter.
When you visit the Lazy Daisies Art Gallery you will also view Mandi’s submission to the prestigious Sanlam Portrait Award 2019. Titled “Bicycle For Sale” Mandi’s masterpiece was placed in the top 275 submissions nationally.
The Gallery is open seven days a week from 7am to 7pm and parking is plentiful. You can view the gallery undisturbed and summon the owners by the press of a buzzer, if required. The route to the gallery is signposted from the main road in St Helena Bay.
About the resident artist:
The Lazy Daisies owners, Mandi and Graham Knee, relocated to the West Coast more than four years ago from the south coast of KZN after Graham survived a massive brain aneurysm. They decided that life is too short to defer your dreams and settled on an idyllic smallholding in St Helena Bay. The focus for Mandi over the past few years has been to complete portrait paintings commissioned by buyers across South Africa as well as internationally with portraits being sent worldwide to countries including Australia, UK, Canada and the USA. And now, Mandi is excited to welcome art lovers, local residents and tourists to her new gallery for them to enjoy her original works.
