The Texas Company of South Africa was founded in 1911, and operated under this name until it became part of the Caltex group of companies in 1936.
Early imports of paraffin would take between 3 to 4 months from the time of the order to delivery in Cape Town, arriving in packs of two 5-gallon tins packed in strong wooden boxes.
Petrol was first sold from handcarts in tins, and later in steel drums, with hand pumps used to fill motor vehicles tanks. Caltex Oil South Africa has been recognized for the introduction of many “firsts”, the most notable of which was the establishment of the first filling station in Sea Point, Cape Town.
